Dr Johnson WMS is an anatomist of repute. He was Professor and Head , Department of Anatomy, before being catapulted to the challenging post of Dean Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, Chennai. He is an enterprising man who always backs the students. He is also the founder president of the Society of Clinical Anatomists. His candid interview conveys the message that one should never give up and our failures in life are the pillars of our success.

Q1. Your reason for joining Anatomy? 

Answer: I joined anatomy because it was the only thing I got without effort. My wife was in 2nd year MD Physiology. I thought Anatomy and Physiology combo will be good for fetching job.

Q2. Kindly tell us regarding the hurdles in your academic journey?

Answer: As a graduate student I failed in Anatomy. Failing in an exam/ paper was my first experience. Most of the lectures where like english movies without subtitles. Even though I had done my schooling in english medium, still I found it difficult initially.

As a postgraduate, challenges very different. One had to run the family, to earn and study at the same time. Curriculum had difficulties like studying comparative anatomy for which books weren’t available. Studying anatomy in depth was challenging.

Q3. When you became administrator what changes it brought in your outlook?
