I grew up on stories of a father who was a state level cricketer forced to become a surgeon by virtue of my grandmother’s insisting ways and a mother who wanted to be a writer but was cajoled to become a medico. Therefore, when the time came for deciding my career, I was at ease; surely, history was on my side. I was confident my passion for history and geo-politics would never let history repeat itself. Yet I found myself succumbing to the infamous paternalistic words commanding “do as you please”.
